SoFi Stadium's First Football Game with Fans
Tomorrow, Saturday, August 14th is the Los Angeles Rams versus Los Angeles Chargers pre-season game. It will be the first football game held at the SoFi Stadium with fans.
The SoFi Stadium opened last fall, in September of 2020, but as we all know, the world was in its various stages of shutdown. SoFi Stadium hosted its first major event with spectators present earlier this year in May 2021, when Global Citizen filmed its concert special, Vax Live: The Concert to Reunite the World.
A fellow hustler in the event industry contacted me about working an event at the stadium and I didn’t put much thought into it all. The compensation offered was hefty enough, so I accepted without asking questions. It wasn’t until I received an email saying “thank you for being available to come in on Saturday for our first football game with fans” that I realized what the event is centered around. They went on in the email to say how it’ll most likely be the majority of people’s first time in Los Angeles new mega stadium and it made me think about the fact that I’m one of the few who it won’t be their first time.
Drake had his Billboard Artist of the Decade Award After-Party at the SoFi Stadium, and by the grace of the universe, I managed to be invited and attend as a guest.

I look forward to seeing what the SoFi Stadium will be like on a completely different vibe, and from a completely different perspective (this time I’ll be an employee, not an attendee).
I really didn’t realize how cool, or how new, and definitely not how expensive this less-than-a-year-old Los Angeles County venue is. A new report ranked the most expensive sports venues and SoFi Stadium was at the top of that list. And it didn’t beat its runner-up by a few dollars. According to Construction Dive, “SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, was more than twice as expensive to build as the second most costly stadium.”
